When Is the iPhone 16 Coming Out?

Apple’s iPhone 16 series is expected to debut in September 2024. This release follows Apple’s trend of introducing new iPhone models annually in the fall. While the exact date has yet to be officially confirmed, the day of Tuesday, September 10 has been rumored as a possible announcement date, and September has traditionally been the month when Apple unveils its latest smartphone innovations.

iPhone 16: What to Expect

The iPhone 16 series is anticipated to bring a host of new features and enhancements. Here’s a sneak peek into what we can expect:

Bigger Display

  • While the external designs are not expected to undergo major overall changes, there could be slight increases in display size and a new aspect ratio for the Pro and Max models.
  • The standard models are likely to retain their existing display sizes but may gain ProMotion support for smoother visual experiences.

Design Changes

  • The standard iPhone 16 models are expected to have a vertical camera layout. Apple has used a diagonal layout for more recent iPhone models, but the swap may allow for spatial video recording using the Ultrawide and Wide cameras.
  • The iPhone 15 Pro models include an Action Button, and in 2024, the Action Button is expected to be expanded to the standard iPhone 16 models. The Action Button used across the iPhone 16 lineup will be identical to the iPhone 15 Pro Action Button. The Action button, which replaces the traditional mute switch, can perform multiple functions such as activating the Flashlight, turning on the Camera, launching a Shortcut, enabling or disabling a Focus mode, using Translate, turning on/off Silent Mode, and more.

Apple Intelligence and Improved Siri

  • With iOS 18, Apple will introduce Apple Intelligence, a suit of AI tools powered by large language models, and some of the cutting-edge generative AI features could be limited to the iPhone 16 models.
  • The iPhone 16 models are rumored to feature an upgraded microphone in order to enhance the Siri experience significantly. This improvement is in line with the expected integration of iOS 18’s new Apple Intelligence functionalities, offering better interactions between Siri and various apps.

New Camera Technology

  • Photography enthusiasts can look forward to an improved 48-megapixel Ultra Wide lens in the iPhone 16 Pro models, promising better image quality, especially in lower lighting conditions.
  • Additionally, both the iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max are rumored to include 5x Telephoto lenses, a feature previously limited to the larger iPhone 15 Pro Max model.

Battery Innovations

Processor Upgrades

  • The iPhone 16 Pro and Max models will be powered by the A18 Pro processor, offering modest speed improvements and an enhanced Neural Engine, as well as support for advanced generative AI capabilities.
  • The standard models are expected to use a variant of the new A18 chip, but the exact specifications have yet to be confirmed.

Other Rumored Features

  • The iPhone 16 Pro Max could be the first to feature a super telephoto periscope camera for dramatically increased optical zoom.
  • All iPhone 16 models will have a new “Capture Button” dedicated to triggering image or video capture. The button will add features like the ability to zoom in and out by swiping left and right on the button, focus on a subject with a light press, and activate a recording with a more forceful press.

First Plans for Apple’s Robot Spotted

Apple’s rumored tabletop robot has been spotted in its global supply chain for the first time, Taiwan’s United Daily News reports.

Apple Robot Thumb 1
Apple has apparently chosen Hongzhun to play a critical role in the development of the forthcoming device. Specifically, the supplier will be responsible for developing key mechanical components and casings for the tabletop robot. Once the product moves into mass production, Hongzhun will be tasked with producing the mechanical parts on a large scale. Hongzhun is a subsidiary of Foxconn, a longstanding manufacturing partner of Apple.

At its most recent shareholders’ meeting, Hongzhun announced its intention to invest in emerging technologies such as robotics and AI, signaling a move away from its traditional focus on producing casings for laptops and game consoles. Hongzhun has prior experience in assembling Foxconn’s own “FoxBot” robot.

Apple’s robot project, reportedly code-named J595 internally, is described by Bloomberg as a desktop device that combines an iPad-like display with a robotic arm. It is designed to serve as a central hub in Apple’s smart home ecosystem, integrating with other Apple products and services like Siri, and run a variant of iPadOS. It could be introduced as soon as 2026, with an estimated price tag of approximately $1,000.

Dive Deeper: Introducing rekordbox ver. 7.0.0

New software learning, cloud, and automation tech supports DJs’ lifestyles with a much smoother, more intuitive workflow – Everything is easier, from finding and managing music to preparing tracks

AlphaTheta Corporation announces the release of rekordbox for Mac/Windows (ver. 7.0.0), a complete DJ software application that integrates everything from music management to live performance capabilities.

This major update to rekordbox – which is used by many DJs around the world, including countless pros – brings huge enhancements to its performance and feature set. New software learning, cloud, and automation technology has been added to create a drastic evolution of the software, and processing loads have been improved. You’ll notice that the time and effort needed to find and manage music has been greatly reduced, whether you’re searching for tracks from the tens of millions available on multiple streaming services or from your own vast collection. To make things even easier, any tracks you do add to your collection can now be automatically filtered by different categories, with cue points automatically set for you if you choose, and you’ll have the option to share playlists.

All this, combined with the newly designed GUI, makes everything from music management to gig preparation easier and more intuitive, so you can focus on being creative.

*Please check the rekordbox homepage for prices and details on the features available in each subscription plan.

KEY FEATURES

New platform and GUI design bring huge improvements in software performance

Vastly improved processing load

Whatever you need to do in rekordbox ver. 7, do it stress-free. The updated platform has achieved up to 56% reduction in CPU processing load compared to rekordbox ver. 6, so the software runs much smoother. In addition, power consumption during startup has been reduced by 38% compared to rekordbox ver. 6, allowing your PC/Mac to run on battery power for longer periods of time.

Refreshed, smoother GUI for comfortable music preparation

Every single aspect of the new GUI in rekordbox ver. 7 was reviewed carefully and built to help you prepare for gigs more efficiently through a comfortable workflow. Fully refreshed, the design takes the best elements from rekordbox ver. 6 so you can instantly understand the state of your system, and it brings various enhancements. The key color has changed to blue to enhance the sense of unity with AlphaTheta and Pioneer DJ hardware, and both Dark and Light mode offer better usability thanks to the clearer grouping of controls and improved waveform visibility.

New browsing system efficiently finds music you want from a wide range of sources

Media Browser

Do you ever feel overwhelmed by the sheer amount of music that’s out there? rekordbox ver. 7 helps you quickly find just the music you want to play. The Media Browser, which has changed from a tree view to an icon view, gives you access to your chosen tracks in the shortest time possible while scouring various sources for you.

New browsing experience when using streaming services

You can now display tracks from streaming services with a focus on the artist’s image and album artwork for a more intuitive, visual browsing experience. To find more music in the style you like, simply click on one of the links for an album or playlist, such as the artist’s name or label, to view a list of related songs.

Collection Filter

Quickly find tracks from your collection – no matter how large it is – with the new Collection Filter. Filter songs by date, genre, artist, or album.

Two Radar functions using software learning technology

Collection Radar unearths tracks from your own collection, which could lead you to rediscover old favorites and songs from your past that you’d completely forgotten about. So, if you’re preparing to play at a particular type of venue or event, you can tell rekordbox which tracks and which filters you want it to match, and the software will find similar gems in your collection.

Streaming Radar navigates new encounters with tracks from streaming services. It pulls results from among tens of millions of songs and can even search for tracks across multiple streaming services, helping you to add undiscovered floor fillers to your collection and find the tracks you need to make each playlist perfect.

A new era for your DJ workflow: software learning and automation tech significantly reduces prep time

Intelligent Cue Creation

Add a track to your rekordbox collection and the software will automatically set up Hot Cues and Memory Cues the way you like. Songs with Hot Cue and Memory Cue settings are registered in a playlist for learning. The software learning of rekordbox ver.7 picks up on trends, so the usual cue point positions are automatically reflected in other songs, making advance preparation much easier.

Dual Player layout

Quickly check the compatibility of tracks and find the best mix points using Dual Player layout, now available in Export mode. The operations of 2 players are linked when Dual Player is turned on via the dedicated button so you can play/pause, move through waveforms, and control Beat Jump for both tracks simultaneously. And with EQ Kill, Key Sync, and Key Shift control, there are even more ways to experiment with different tracks so you can make them sound perfect together.

Column View

If you’ve used the Column view in the Mac Finder, you’ll be familiar with the new Column View in rekordbox ver. 7. This hierarchical structure enables you to browse playlists and playlist folders while visually checking their hierarchy, offering an intuitive way to search for folders and files, and to select and navigate through multiple playlists and tracks.

Collaborative Playlist

Share playlists with your friends and DJ peers. Metadata, such as the order of songs in the list, BPM, grids, and cue points, can be included,* allowing you to share information for a wide range of purposes, including preparing for back-to-back sets or considering set lists for festivals.

*If you share a playlist that includes tracks from a streaming service, anyone who wants to use the playlist will need a subscription for the same streaming service. If you share a playlist containing tracks stored locally on your PC/Mac, the tracks won’t be available to the other collaborator until they purchase the music themselves.

Owner registration enables free control of selected new features in rekordbox ver. 7

The Dual Player layout, Collection Filter, Column View, and other paid features added in this update are available free of charge when DJ equipment eligible for owner registration is registered to an AlphaTheta account via rekordbox ver. 7. Once registered as an owner, these functions can be used even if the DJ equipment is not connected to a PC/Mac.

New Lens Introduces an Abundance of Light at an Affordable Price

Nikon’s new NIKKOR Z 35mm f/1.4 lens is designed for wide-angle shots with superb portability, perfect for users pushing their boundaries of creativity

SINGAPORE – Nikon Singapore Pte. Ltd. introduces the NIKKOR Z 35mm f/1.4, a portable wide-angle prime lens with a fast aperture that enables users to enjoy the large bokeh expression with ease.

The well-balanced Z mount, full-frame, and FX-compatible lens offers superior optical performance at an affordable price point. Its smaller, lighter body, at approximately 415 g, makes it perfect for everyday users who wish to expand their range of expression in capturing landscapes, pets, flowers, and portraits while on the go.

“Designed with high-performance optics, this versatile lens empowers creatives to capture a variety of subjects, from breathtaking landscapes and portraits, to your next cinematic masterpiece. Whether you’re after portability or a fast aperture lens, the NIKKOR Z 35mm f/1.4 is exceptional for your visual storytelling.” said John Young, General Manager of International Marketing, International Business Division of the Imaging Group, Nikon Singapore Pte. Ltd.

NIKKOR Z 35mm f/1.4 Primary Features

An affordable and fast lens

The NIKKOR Z 35mm f/1.4 adds to Nikon’s lens list and expands the range of creative expressions. Offering a maximum aperture of f/1.4, it takes advantage of the shallow depth of field to create a large bokeh, giving subjects a soft, ethereal expression and enabling them to stand out, achieving a three-dimensional rendering.

The lens’s ability to capture abundant light also makes it reliable for shooting in low light or indoor environments, with faster shutter speeds helping to reduce blurring. With the appropriate exposure easily obtained at low ISO sensitivity, the lens helps users capture cleaner images by reducing noise.

A natural perspective and exceptional rendering unique to Z lenses

This latest 35mm wide-angle lens from Nikon captures scenes as the human eye sees them, allowing users to capture versatile scenes from various angles to create a sense of depth for striking photos. The minimum focus distance of 0.27 m and the maximum aperture further emphasise the main subject, creating a pronounced background blur.

The NIKKOR Z 35mm f/1.4 also provides exceptional rendering unique to Z lenses. The rendering is customisable, allowing users to match it to their creative intentions.

At maximum aperture, subjects impressively stand out with soft rendering and shallow depth of field, allowing a soft, large bokeh that brings them to life in a vivid and lively three-dimensional manner that is perfect for pets and portraiture. Meanwhile, closing down the aperture allows users to enhance detail capture for sharp, high-resolution rendering suitable for landscape photography.

This lens achieves top-class optical performance among Z lenses, eliminating chromatic and coma aberrations and surpassing other lenses in the same category1.

Superb portability

The lens is approximately 74.5 X 86.5 mm in size and weighs approximately 415 g, easily fitting into everyday bags and convenient for snapping photos on the go.

Designed with video recording in mind

The angle of view remains constant when adjusting the focus to suppress focus breathing2 to provide a natural-looking image. Furthermore, the lens adopts a stepping motor (STM), enabling fast and quiet auto-focus operation, making operating sounds less likely to be recorded in quiet environments.

The light lens reduces shifting the centre of gravity when focusing, making it suitable for gimbal-mounted shooting. The NIKKOR Z 35mm f/1.4 also allows linear operation during manual focus, enabling precise focusing as desired.

Other features

The NIKKOR Z 35mm f/1.4 is designed with a sense of luxury and functional superiority in mind. It is the first non-S-Line lens to adopt a metal filter ring cover. The focus and control rings have differing knurling shapes, which are easily distinguishable even while looking through the viewfinder.

Designed to widen gradually from base to tip, the lens ensures stable camera holding during shooting. The lens is also designed to consider dust and drip resistance3; various parts, including movable parts of the lens barrel, are sealed to prevent dust and water droplets from entering the lens.

In November 2023, Nikon celebrated its 90th anniversary for NIKKOR, which has grown into an internationally recognised brand that pushes the boundaries of imaging excellence.
